Modelling My Character Part 2

Even though my model looked quite nice, I still was not happy with the UV map, so I decided to remake her all again, especially since I had time and the last one was more of a test.
Again, I was having problems with UV mapping!!! I'm not sure why this was such a complex for me, and whilst colouring it in and applying it to my model made her look exactly like my drawings, I was still having issues.
So I remade her AGAIN, and decided to do separate UV maps for the different parts of her body, for example her head separate to her body. This was a lot more helpful for me because it allowed me to draw her dress pattern! Finally I got to create her t-shirt, the straps and her neck, as well as on her back. The only problem I had here was that her hands and arms didn't UV map properly... again! I will have to ask Mat what is going wrong here. However there are no patterns on her gloves or arms, so it isn't too much of an issue like her dress was previously.
I then UV mapped the head separately and was able to add some hair and blush. I am not sure if I want to add more detail yet, but for now I am glad I have the basics down. UV mapping the different body parts separately has helped me see where I went wrong, and has also allowed me to design my model more intricately, and help me learn to keep my mesh clean and tidy, instead of scattered and messy,
This is what she looks like so far! I am very pleased with my result as of now. I did not think I would be able to make her mesh let alone add colour and bring her ever so slightly to life! The top image, I played around with some red lighting like we will be doing in our carnival animation just to see if she would go well with our setting and I like her colour palette even more! I am also very glad that I focussed on her silhouette in the design process because I really like her shadows, and I think when I start to play with lighting, I can really make her shadow have their own character because her head is so big and her legs are so slim.
Finally, I added some eyes and UV mapped them and added some colour. HOWEVER, I was appalled at how these came out. These were definitely the downfall of the model and I had no idea why they looked so bad. I think I am going to have to separate them from the head and look at UV mapping them individually, or do what Mat did in his tutorials and add a ramp shader.
