Whilst 3D animation has a few limitations, there is still an extreme potential for it. One of these potentials I have found is in medicine. Though this seems like the opposite end of the spectrum, animation is in fact used in this field for pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and medical marketing companies all over the world. And the most important factor of all is that it is used to help people.
This form of animation can help patients understand if they have an illness/have broken something, how and where in the body this is taking place, how it has happened and how medicine can help fix/counteract the problem. This is a visual aid to help patients understand the extremely complex parts of the body that you cannot see without having to physically undergo a procedure. It also gives an opportunity to those who are really squeamish, to see inside their body, without the faint, nauseous feeling.
I find this to be an amazing discovery and an amazing way to incorporate animation into finding comfort in troubling times. These types of animated videos can perhaps help a patient understand what procedure they may be getting and aid them into deciding if this is the right choice for them.
I came across one company in particular names 'Hybrid Medical Animation' and they made a series of 3D medical animation for operations, 3D models of parts of the body for example the heart and even adverts for contact lenses and how they work and are beneficial. I think this is such a humble way to be an artist and I think the potential is has for everyday people is phenomenal.
