The last but not least part of my Maya model that I needed to make was the hands! This was very tricky because it is a very complex feature of the body. Even in real life there are lots of joints and intricacies of the hand, therefore I spent a lot of time making it.
I payed a lot of attention to the knuckles and the fingernails this time around which was a lot of fun because I got to add some personal details in there.
And I actually think it looked great! Especially when I went into smooth preview mode. I did struggle with the length of my models hands therefore I think when it comes to making my own character I am going to have to think and worry about proportions a lot!
I then added another finger, altering it slightly so that it was a lot wider and a little bit shorter than the other one, as well as adding a thumb! I love the detail on the thumb but I was a little bit worried about how thin the first finger looked in comparison to the other finger, so I ended up widening out that one as well.
Next I finally got to mirror my model! I was very excited about this because I couldn't wait to see the last result. But before that, I deleted all the history in my channel box, and straightened up the edge loop that was going to centre along my models Y axis.
And then I mirrored my model and he looked like this!
I redid the mouth like in the tutorial and fixed the pinched edges of the mouth which again, was a little bit tricky, only because there are so many vertices.
And voila! Here is my fully completed maya DIY model! I am very proud of this outcome, perhaps because it took me so long, but also because I think it looks great. I did not think I could have ever achieved this. I think the tutorial worked great and I ended up with a nice, smooth product. Next we will be rigging and adding eyes, but I think this is a huge step for now!
