Between us, Hayley and I made a list of all the existing rivals we could think of, both animated and ones that were not. We then decided to see what the main aim of these rivals were and what made them such good enemies.
Firstly we have the Joker and Batman which is a rivalry centred around crime and sense of morality. I feel like an animation around crime would have to be more than 1 minutes worth therefore we decided not to go with this one. We then looked at Tom and Jerry which is a cat and mouse chase rivalry which embodies the sense of a thrill. I like the idea of having a thrill animation, but it all depends on the characters we create and how well we can animate them, so we put that one in our thinking list. Next, was Scar and Mufasa who we associate with power. Power is a great tool to manipulate, so again we are thinking of this one. Mario and Bowser is another classic pairing, and this is also an interesting one because these two are rivals because one took something from the other and therefore there is this goal and need for a reward/prize (i.e the princess). Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort is my favourite enemy pairing as one could not survive while the other lived, so this rivalry is extremely thrilling and theatrical and something to think about. Lastly, we thought about Snow White and the Evil Queen because their dislike for each other is based on vanity and greed which is different from all the other pairings we could think of.
Overall I came to the conclusion that there is a lot more to rivalry that what you instantly think of. There are so many reasons for a rivalry, from power to greed and control. Perhaps we are even over thinking it, and we should go for a light weight topic, and just a little family competition? Either way I think we have chosen a really great topic to go for.
