Hayley and I have finally decided on our final idea for our narrative for a 'Rivalry' animation.
It was a given that we both wanted an older brother and an older sister competing at some sort of competition in a carnival or a funfair, however we didn't exactly know what our narrative would entail.
First we thought about having the two characters at a funfair stand throwing hoops to claim the big prize. The audience would be in suspense of the whole 50 seconds until the very end where the twist would be that not one of the characters would get the prize, as it would have gotten away or disappeared somehow. However both Mat and Sara found this too predictable so we went off to think some more.
We then decided to still use the carnival/fun fair idea, and still have the characters competing for a prize, however this time force the audience into thinking that the older brother would claim the prize (design him as a jock, baseball player of some sort), and lead the audience into thinking that the little sister will have no chance. However right at the end the little girl throws the ball with such force that she smashes the whole stand, surprising both her brother and the audience. Then to have a loop, the camera will pan to another stand, one with an even better prize, and both characters make a run for that one, for the whole process to start again.
I am very happy with out narrative and can't wait to start designing our characters and making a storyboard!
