When looking at existing animations that included some sort of circus theme, I remembered that 'Coraline' has a great scene that explores the whole circus atmosphere, therefore I decided to go back and have a look at it.
Firstly, I love how lowly lit the scene is and this is something that Hayley and I are going to have to think about when we come to making sure we have lighting in our animation. There is a soft glow from the lights and then everything else is quite dark, which focuses the audience's attention onto the games and the entertainment. This is particularly important for our animation because it is quite short and sweet, so a lot of attention needs to put on how the animation looks.
I also took note of the sound in this clip. I actually forgot just how important sound is for a circus, it is quite playful and jingly, so I can't wait to start thinking about that element as well. Circus' are VERY theatrical, and this brief is a great chance to play that aspect up.
There is also a lot of moving spotlights in this clip, which I think will also be very fun for Hayley and I to explore, also because I really enjoyed experimenting with lights in Maya for the very first study Task we had. Making them move though, might be a bit more of a challenge, but I am more than willing to give it a go.
Overall, I think this clip has given me a lot more ideas and inspiration for my own animation, and has given me a lot more to think about in terms of sound and lighting, in association with a circus.
