Hayley suggested we look at the fun fair scene in 'Despicable Me' which I have yet to see. This is a completely contrasting carnival look to 'Coraline', but extremely exciting to look at none the less.
This carnival is a bit more beachy, by the pier and has a really cheery and upbeat feel to it. There is A LOT of colour, and a lot of things for your eyes to take in, literally a visual feast. Also when the children start shooting targets, there is a lot off camera cuts, from their facial expressions to the target and back and forth and so on. This is something I have thought about doing for our animation as well. Because we chose the rivalry theme, we should play on that theme through facial expressions. Zooming the camera in to illustrate eagerness and competitiveness and then zooming the camera to the dart board or the bottles, whatever the point of interest is, to emphasise the goal/prize of the narrative.
The music to this clip also reminds of the arcade games you can get by the beach as well, which is another fun spin on a carnival and something to think about. Depending on what colour scheme and which path we choose for our carnival/circus idea, I think we have a lot of research to look back on for reference.
