Responsive First Session: Analysing Briefs

Our first responsive session was really fun! Mainly because I got to meet new people which has made me excited for all the future sessions! However it also taught me how to analyse a brief in great detail, something i've never ever had to do before, because i've never ever entered a competition. Therefore though this module is very out of my comfort zone, I think it will massively help my confidence and also push me to do different things that I necessarily wouldn't ever do!

Before we got given specific briefs to analyse, we were given a list of tips and tricks to consider when choosing our own ones for the module. One of these was 'justification'. In other words, accepting a brief for a particular reason. Do you like the ethical aspect of the brief? Do you think it will benefit you in any way? Or are you just doing it for financial reasons? These are all things to think about, instead of just choosing one brief in order to fulfil the module specifications.

Audience was also a massive factor when looking at briefs. If you can't cater to the audience then what is the point in starting the brief? The demographic could range from young children to mature adults. This then triggers how you would go about appealing to this age range and other things to avoid.

The last one that stuck out to me, was the 'BE SMART' tip! In other words, be realistic. If you really want to enter a competition but have three days to the deadline, this is probably unachievable and would be a waste of time to do only half of it. This is something I am going to have to think about a lot, especially if my briefs are all animation based, as I don't want to put the competitions at a higher priority than my other modules.
