Discovery Channel Research - The Walking Dead

When our class was having our Advanced After Effects Induction, we were shown this video which illustrates the use of After Effects 3D layers. This is something that I want to use in my Discovery Channel animation, and therefore I thought it was appropriate to look at this animation as perhaps inspiration and a reference. Though I have no experience with watching The Walking Dead or know any factual information about it.

What is most distinct to me about this animation is that as some of the layers come forward they 'blur', in other words, they are out of our focal point, just as if it was being filmed by a real camera. This is something that I may consider, but also may not. I want to use the 3D layers in order to create depth and dimension like so in this opening sequence, but since my ident will only be 10 seconds long, I don't want to over do it.

To summerise, I love how this animation has used layering in order to create an illusion of dimension. This is not an area I have experienced with, as I usually do all my animation in Photoshop, therefore I would really like to experiment with After Effects and 3D layers.
