After showing my teacher my two finished (for that time being) idents, I was given a LOT of feedback. Some of which I took a little bit to heart, but then once I calmed down and revisited the feedback I understood a lot more which was being said.
Firstly, though my E4 ident was my favourite out of the two, there were a lot of things to be said. First off I was advised to adjust alignments and perhaps get rid of the pink space at either side of the screen. Though I thought this was a nice touch, I was advised to get of rid of it since there really isn't much going on in this area. Also having the plasticine ball bounce before the cactus not on top of it, was another piece of feedback, and I did completely agree with this.
As for my Discovery Channel ident, this was the one that i received a lot of feedback for which kind of overwhelmed at the time. I did expect it, but hearing it face to face made me realise I really needed to make some adjustments. Firstly I needed to keep up the consistency in the size of the sun/moon since it changes shape throughout all three settings. This I understood and knew I were to change it next time I was in After Effects. Also, the pivotal points of the birds wings were too centred and needed to be moved to the top. I didn't really know what the pivotal point meant as a technical reference as opposed to a physical one, but after experiments with the tools in Photoshop I now know what it is and how to alter it. There were also several small bits to alter, like the rotation of the dolphin and how it lingers in the air, and moving the title down so it is within the safety zone, etc...
There were also some experimenting points to consider. I was advised to play with the focus/depth and lighting in the animation, perhaps to make it have even more dimension, as I did make this a primary point with the inner and drop shadows in Photoshop. In addition it was also advised to make the space between the 3D layers more wider, so that if I do add a light layer, there can be even more depth than what is already apparent.
At the time this feedback seemed like a hell of a lot to change, but it isn't really. It has just made me want to try even harder to make my ident a lot better and I can see blatantly where all the flaws are.
