After doing some mood boards and storyboarding, I thought it would be a good idea to try and have some more visual planning before I went straight intro making the 3 settings. Because I think colour is a very important aspect, I decided to do some colour contrasts in order to find the perfect colours that will be perfect for my ident. I did two gradients on each test square, the top to represent the sky, and the bottom gradient to represent the land/sea aspect.
I first went ahead with the beach/sea setting. I knew I wanted a very appealing, yet contrasting colour palette for this particular setting, thus I tried to pick colours that complimented each other yet didn't blend in together. Since I want to have layers in my animation, and edit them on After Effects, I am more inclined towards the second colour palette. Not only is it very appealing to me, I find that the colours envision a summery dawn, therefore emphasising on the nature aspect of the channel as well as its marine life. For my ident to reflect the contents of the channel, it was important for me to comprehend why the channel is so successful, and what makes people watch it. Not only do people visit it to see elements that they don't see in their every day life, a sort of vicarious experience as opposed to a comedic one, they watch it to be educated on subjects which do not surround their busy life. Hence why I chose such drastic settings and contrasting colours.
The next setting then that I experimented with was my desert! I immediately knew I wanted a very deep burnt orange for my primary background, and therefore as soon as I saw it on the screen I immediately opted to go for that one for the animation. However I am more leaning towards the sand on the right image. The reason for the green streak down the middle is because I wanted to have some cacti in this animation, a few on separate layers also moving individually, however I just wanted to see how it would look up against the warmer colours. I think it would look a great deal better with the deeper red sky, so with experimenting with these colours I think a blend of the two will be what I choose!
Then finally, was my safari at night setting. Again this is very complicated for me because I had no initial vision in my mind for it, especially as I have to work with unfamiliar colour palettes, so I would assume that this is going to be my least aesthetically pleasing location. Never the less I did try and work with it, I like both the skies in these square tests, however i'm not so sure about the land aspect and therefore I will have to find a solution in the next step. I feel like this setting will be less planned and more made on the spot, as from my planning so far, I just can't seem to be happy with it!
