Since I planned to go a different direction with my Discovery Channel Ident, I thought it would be best to do some mood boards in order to get an idea of what colour, texture and content I wanted to include in my idents. Looking back I think this was the best thing I could have done when changing my idea, I find it hard to describe my aesthetic/what I am in love with, because when I just say 'colour' no one really understands the extend to which I mean. Therefore being able to put together a collection of vibrant images that I find appealing and then being able to apply similar concepts to my artwork has really helped at this stage of the production.
This first mood board is for my beach setting. I tried to gather images that I felt were beach-like and had an epitome about them that was summery and welcoming. I was drawn to very turquoise colours and palm trees with a pink sunset, so it is very clear to me that this is the path that I will be going down.
Next was a mood board for my desert setting. Through this mood board I barely got any images of a desert itself, I more so leaned towards the colour I wanted to go with the setting and the textures. Texture is something important that I want to bring to the ident to give it depth and character. I also seemed to be drawn to cacti, which i never really thought about but I definitely think that I will be adding it to my desert setting once I get started!
Then lastly is my favourite mood board of the three. I found it hard to distinguish what a safari at night was and I wasn't sure if I wanted to have a dark pink or vibrant purple sunset so I kind of played around with that here. I also looked at some animals that would potentially go with this atmosphere, i.e giraffes, zebras and flamingos. I think I strayed towards more shades of purple in this mood board which is fine and I will probably use this when I come to producing it.
But I really enjoyed making these mood boards. I think these are the most in depth mood boards that I have ever made and they look really good as a whole. I feel like I know what I am going to achieve and what direction I am going to head in now that I have some sort of visual in my mind!
