Model Making Workshop 2

This next session involved plasticine and carving our models as opposed to just bulking them up with the milliput. This was also a fun session but it also made me realise that I ran into a few problems that could be noted for next time.

Before we started with the plasticine though, we had to use 'Elastoplast', which is basically like the plasters you use for cuts, however we used it to bandage up our models so that the plasticine would be able to say on our figures. Apparently plasticine and milliput do not mix well, so this was definitely an important step!

We also had to make some eyes out of milliput before we started with the plasticine, so that when we put them in the warm room, they would be able to harden and we could carve sockets for the models eyes to fit in.

Then it was time to start carving! We simply just added plasticine all over the models body and then carved it as we wished. I didn't worry too much about the body shape since I was going to add clothes anyway, however one thing I did notice was that I had made my models legs too close together so it was really hard for me to carve the plasticine on his legs and it became an even bigger problem in future sessions will plaster of paris. So next time I do something like this then I will either make my models legs longer or farther apart.

Finally I tried to make some hair for my model and some eyebrows but it was very finicky and my nails made the process even harder. Though I enjoyed it, I don't really think my model turned out very good, but I am still learning so much!
