Since I had previously found out that the demographic for the channel of E4 was 16-24 year old women, I wanted to some more in depth research since it really did fascinate me.
This is what stands on their website. They claim that the predominant viewers on their channel are young, and they are extremely aware of this. So much so that they have begun to describe what kind of young people watch their channel. Thus came to the conclusion that E4 viewers are very sociable, use the internet to an extreme extent and have very strong opinions. They also mention that E4 viewers are 'fashion conscious', perhaps suggesting that this is why they make their image very important to them. Of course every popular brand is conscious of their image, but E4 are very particular about their style. They make purple their key colour association (no specific gender connotations) and their logo is everywhere once something is in connection to them. But I think this is very smart.
Whether that is in fact their demographic or if that is just the demographic they just want to target for their channel, it is smart to target young people. Because they do actually use the internet heavily, as this includes social media and being able to make something go viral within SECONDS. By targeting young people, means that they will want to check it out and tell whoever they can with a click of a button. I remember personally when 'The Inbetweeners' was a massive deal in High School, everyone was watching it because everyone was talking about it, and that is what you get with young people. Hence why E4 are economically efficient.
