Responsive Collaborative: Fireworks / Projection Mapping Concept

When I spoke to Mike, he reminded me that the brief is looking for a concept and an idea that is demonstrated, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we have to go out and buy all the components needed to make the actual display. Therefore since we are only making one room mock up, I can't project the fireworks that I created because they are to go behind the full house scene, so I decided to make .mov files illustrating how I would like them to be projected at different angles and with sound. I wanted at least some sound, as the brief brings it up very vaguely, so I think we would be different and stand out if we submitted at least one video that has some audio! In addition to being unique, I think it will allow us to see our display in a new way, by bringing it to life even more.
I had already made a .gif of two fireworks but I felt like this didn't look balanced enough so I added one more to be sure that there was enough movement. Though I was happy with this result, I didn't think it would be enough to just have one angle/one example of how the light projection would work in the display. So I took my images saved from Maya, and made a collage of them and created fireworks on those as well.
These were the four angles that I chose. I particularly like the bottom right one, as this allowed me to create the shadows of the fireworks, something I had to think about. I tried to make the shadow less bold when the firework was evaporating, as this was when the firework is at its highest and least opaque, so I wanted to follow the laws of science to make it more realistic looking. However the scene is quite dark anyway, so I am not sure if it is all that apparent anyway. However I think that this .gif looks much more complex and in conjunction with my illustrations of light projection this will be really good development for our presentation slides that we are to submit!

And these are the fireworks with sound. I wanted to add sound as the brief asks the question "How will your display sound like?" I think it will be intriguing to have fireworks going off through light projection and through audio, as it will make passers by wonder what is going on within the display and will make them take a closer look. Personally I have rarely seen a display have sound, so I do see this as one of our unique selling points that will make the judges see us as unique competition especially as I think many people will overlook this aspect. Overall I am quite happy with how this has turned out, and along with all of my group members work, I think we will illustrate a unique take on this brief that is both relevant and distinctive.
