This is more of my working out of the mouth poses for the rest of the first section of the newt audio. Since it has been working, I have stuck to it and since it is easy for me to follow this is what I have been using as my method of calculation. Hayley has been drawing mouth shapes as her way of following the audio and I have been using letter and frame numbers!
And this is our first couple of scenes along with what we made today! I am so proud of what we achieved today, as we were able to consider everything we have been doing previously, emphasise it and put it into one whole scene.
We switched back to the front camera, trying to get it as close to the first scene as we could and I think we did a really good job of doing so. Also, we spent around an hour and a half yesterday calculating all the mouth scenes so that today we could go ahead and animate it all without having to stop in between and work out what we should be doing next. I feel like this really helped us a lot, and we were able to keep going and add more enthusiasm and character into the newt without having breaks.
For the line 'a river naturally has flood planes, it needs to flood...' Hayley and I really wanted this to be exaggerated through head movements, tail and especially hands. Over and over, we practiced our hands and head movements, and watched how we lowered our heads when we emphasised the beginning of a word to show how our voice stresses it even further. We put this into the newt so that when we says NAturally HAs FLood planes, as he says each word, his head dips, because the voice in the audio is stressing thee particular parts. At the same time, we noticed our hands moved, so we also tried to replicate this into the model. I love how these turned out and I am so proud of myself because they sync up with the audio and fit perfectly with the character. Hayley also wanted another hand movement after those words on 'flood', as if he is slapping the rock. I think we got him to do it in time, maybe just not as forceful, but I still love it and think it looks great.
Furthermore when the newt raises his voice in a sing song like manner at the end of this clip, Hayley suggested we move his head side to side and make him look up. I liked this idea, because it just makes the character more exaggerated and as if his voice is fueling him to move, which I think works perfectly. I am surprised with how much footage we have now (18 secs), which means we have one whole scene finished. We have decided to continue animating all newt scenes next, as we already have the scenery set up, and then move on to the other characters.
