Today we had our interim crit for Applied 2 // Documentary animation, and I wasn't too nervous for this crit, because I knew Hayley and I had worked really hard on our product so far, and felt like it was paying off.
Of course we got some constructive criticism, but we are grateful for it, because it means we have new things to think about and focus on for the rest of the animation. Some of these pieces of feedback included, making the cut to the newt more up close, and not as similar to the previous shot. We didn't really want a cut to begin with, however since someone had moved the tripod, we had to think on our feet, but agreed if we had time, we would amend this. Another comment was made on our audio, for the birds. We were advised to fix the reverb on this audio, and I agree that it needs to be done so this will be something worth looking into. Lastly, more movement was suggested, such as the whole body. We weren't as keen on this feedback because our scene is in an interview, so we don't want to overdo it, but are thinking of ways to incorporate it into our next scheduled session.
We did however, get some positive feedback. Firstly we replaced our animation with the animatic so we could stay in perfect timing, as well as show the progression so far whilst keeping our narrative. Martin and Sara also liked the hand gestures in sync with the audio, and were overall pleased with our efforts.
Now Hayley and I will continue to animate, finishing all the scenes with the newt in them whilst we have this setting all in place, and then move on to the other models.
