Responsive: Penguin Book Binding 2

After redesigning two of the Penguin book covers to get them to a stage where I am happier with them, I decided to rebind them. I started with 'Emil and the Detectives'. I am so much more pleased with this design, even though I liked my previous one, this one is more cohesive and works as a whole, which was a big requirement from the live brief. I am so glad that I didn't just leave my designs and that I actually took the chance to re-make it as it is something different, and allowed me to use paper/mixed media which I have never really experimented with before! I would be proud to send this in to the brief, as it shows that I took a new route to 'rebrand' the covers, as well as being able to break boundaries and use a design that goes onto the back as well.

The next design I remade was the 'How to be a Woman one'. Though I am happier with the redesign of the back cover, I am still not so sure about the colour scheme. This is something I will have to look out for in feedback and in the crits, because I have two versions. I am still glad I rebinded it however, as I can see that the back cover needed more illustrations and depth which I think I was able to achieve.

I then decided to put my books alongside of some other ones to see if they stand out, another requirement of the brief, and I definitely think that they do. I am very happy with how the sides of the books look, especially as this is the initial stage where customers will spark interest and pick up the books. They are bold and unique and I am proud of them. This has been a great brief for me, and I think I enjoyed it particularly because I love everything about books so I felt like I needed to put extra effort in to show this. I also loved binding the books and physically putting them together as this was something new than going completely digital.
