For our very first interim crit session for our Responsive, individual practice brief, I was beyond extremely nervous. I had found comfort in having only a small amount of people on our Animation course, therefore having to show my work to up to and possibly over 50 people, made me want to crawl back into my shell and not show anything. Even though in my head I knew it was going to be a great opportunity to get feedback from other students with different skill sets and talents, I was still so nervous.
However it turned out to be the best crit session I have attended so far! I received so much feedback, some lovely comments and constructive criticism which I really needed. I think by being nervous, I pushed myself even further. I wanted the Illustration students to think I was hard working and made some successful work, so whilst I dreaded the session, it turned out better than I expected.
A lot of people liked my 'Emil and the Detectives' design which makes me extremely glad that I went back and redesigned it! They liked that it was hand made, an element some people said they didn't think of. They also commented on my 'A Clockwork Orange' design, saying that it worked cohesively, and was bold. And for my 'How to be a Woman' book cover, a lot of people loved the concept but said the colour scheme didn't fit the theme of the book. I had so many doubts about this myself, so to get confirmation from other people was the concrete advice I needed to get myself to go and change it.
Overall I am so happy with the feedback I received, especially because it came from a new set of people who don't know me and have never seen my work before. This session was also eye opening for me, as I got to see so many different and exciting styles from hard working people who I would love to work with for the next brief. It has made me push myself to try and find an illustrator/graphic designer to work with in the group project, if they will also have me in their team as well.
Summary of points:
-Change colour of How to be a Woman design (doesn't fit).
-Fix areas near bleed lines.
-Good paper cut idea.
-Good How to be a Woman concept.
-Good use of bold colours on Clockwork Orange.
