Responsive: Final Penguin Entries

These are my final entries for my Penguin Random House 2016 briefs. I decided to do all 3 because I really enjoyed making them even though they were extremely challenging. I'm not 100% sure I have 'found' my style yet, but I definitely have realised that there is so much more to colour. I have experimented with contrasting colours, to sticking to only two colours, to using colours that I never would have thought about using before (mustard yellow)!

I found these briefs EXTREMELY difficult, as I had to try and represent a whole story in only two images. I tried to think about key themes as well as leaving a bit of mystery for the reader, however I also tried to to make my covers loud and exciting, to make the new generation pick them up. I definitely think my interpretations are unique because I tried really hard to 'think outside the box' for example with 'How to be a Woman' i'm not sure many people would choose the technological generation route, and would perhaps be more drawn to connotations of gender stereotypes, so I am happy my ideas are different.

I also had a big problem with space. I didn't really know how much space was enough to be filled and how much I could leave. I did try and find a balance, however my 'Emil and the Detectives' one is my least favourite in terms of space. I wanted to go all out there with the layout of the cover, however I struggled then, with the sides as I had awkward amounts of space to work with. I tried to think about the 'rhythm' of the page and making things flow, but since I am new to illustrations and layouts, I can only say I tried my best.
