Pose To Pose Research

I feel like my first attempt at pose to pose animation with animating the pendulum went really well! However when I attempted the second experimental one, it was less simple and like in my blog post about it, I had issues with timing, therefore I wanted to do some research on it.

According to the book 'Animator's Survival Kit', the timing on my first attempt at a fly buzzing around was ''BAD BAD BAD'. This is because I kept the pace of the movement of the fly all the same, and the whole thing to felt too slow. I had too many frames when at certain points I needed to have less, and others, more. I did go ahead and change this, and the fly looks a lot smoother and feels more right, however I still wanted to make sure I was following the right rules.

The next time I edited it, I got to fix my issues with arcs! This made me feel really better about myself and I even got to involve some anticipation also which I felt I hadn't had any experience with. However in terms of pose to pose animation it is all about drawing the key frames and doing the in-betweens. That is why sorting out the timing first is SO important, as it could really make or break you animation.

I also realised from this research that choosing the key frames are even hard to make. These also dictate whether your action is going to be too fast or too slow. You don't want your key frame to be too similar to the previous one, but you don't want it to be too different either, or else the in-betweens will hardly be in-betweens but more like straight ahead animation.

Either way, I feel a bit more reassured that it went right and I improved my timing on my pose to pose animations. If I plan really well beforehand I will be alright, it is just getting that initial stage done with that is the most complex.
