The campaign for 'Comfort' the fabric conditioner, is my absolute favourite TV animated advert of all time. It's absolutely beautiful and I wish there was more to it than the 5 second slot on the television. The colours, the patterns, the shapes, the TEXTURES, it's all so crisp and amazing I cannot do this advert justice.
It was created by Neil Duerden and Tom Connel through Jelly London, which is a production agency and is actually utilised via Photoshop Wizardry and CGI. Neil Duerden stated these works were made with extremely tight deadlines but to me personally, these adverts look beyond sharp and detailed for having to be done in a rush. It makes me want to start looking at colour wheels right away.
Now as far as the message communication goes, this is extremely controversial. Comfort adverts were banned from UK television, because they were deemed 'misleading'. I remember before I even chose this advert to analyse, I was trying to think of the brand because I have never forgotten this advert but I had forgot the company. However I COULD NOT find clips of this advert anywhere, only one or two on youtube that are very old, and then I tried to remember the last time I even saw this advert on the television and couldn't remember that either. And it was because of this, because it has been banned. Rival 'P&G' who own Ariel's fabric conditioner complained about how the data used in Comfort's campaign was taken over a course of two months and that wasn't really reliable information to base statistics upon. It was then taken off the TV, outdoor and press ads. Hence why I haven't seen it in such a long time.
But since it is an advertisement it's main aim is to get consumers to buy their product. And they did a good job of it, I mean who wouldn't want to buy this fabric conditioner whilst watching this stunning, colourful piece of animation? Since is was broadcasted on the television and they had posters on bilboards, I think I am right to assume that this advert is aimed at anyone who own a washing machine, so basically everyone. I am extremely sad to find out this advert has been banned because I imagine if the campaign was still going how more amazing the adverts could only get with time. Never the less, I never forgot this animation and even though it ended up as unsuccessful being taken out of the media, I think it is successful in being a distinguishable piece of advertising.
