Extended Practice: Feedback So Far

After talking with peers I have received this advice:
  • Continue with background designs, starting to shape up.
  • Think about character design? Separate components? Rigging them in After Effects?
  • Are you having audio? If not, are you recording your own sounds?
  • Good research, maybe contact companies?
  • Start testing if necessary.
  • Start thinking about artbook and layout. Make sure there is enough for 20 pages.
  • Remember to blog progress.

Extended Practice: Backgrounds

Before sketching any potential background, I put together a mood board of all the different sceneries and driving conditions that I wanted to consider for my animation advert series. I looked at countryside, daytime, motorways, night, very rainy days (effects stopping distance), etc. I liked the range that I looked at and decided to try and include as many as possible into my adverts.

I begun by taking inspiration from my mood board and then trying to think of landscapes, cities and angles I could replicate. I did this small study very quickly as I wanted to spend more time on the graphic/Photoshop side of the designing which is my favourite part. I however, wanted to something to look back on for structure and design so I used these sketches to inform my more refined ones!

And here they are! These are not completely final, as I would like them to be more detailed and exciting, but they give me a good idea of where I am with this module and allow me to visualise my story more. I think that I can not storyboard efficiently as I have environments in my mind and I can think of angles and composition even further! I have considered colour a lot here, as it is one of my favourite elements of designing, and I want to take advantage of this to illustrate the different road conditions.

Extended Practice: Environments Research

These are some of my Pinterest boards which I have been using to help me with environmental inspiration as well as camera angles, a new area I am very determined to explore. Some of these angles can be subtle, but you can still tell that it isn't too forced and straight on which I love. I also really like the amount of colour that I have pulled from artists when making these boards. This suggests to me that I want to create my own animation full of colour and life.

I can already see so many new scenes and angles that I could create for the topics I have chosen, therefore I am excited to look at more reference pictures and begin sketching.
